String Theory Colorworks started in 2009 with the fateful words, “Hey, honey! Wouldn’t it be cool if..?” The founder began dyeing self-striping yarn that very weekend with the help of her husband, affectionately nicknamed “MacGyver-ski” by her mother. With her husband working as an electrical engineer and the founder having studied biology, they decided all of their yarns should have science-inspired names. Many of the colorways also interconnect in ways that reflect the founder’s uniquely creative mindset.

The family moved to New Mexico in July 2012, and welcomed their daughter in October of that year. Balancing business ownership with parenting brought new challenges, but things continued to go well. Their second child, a son, was born in April 2016. In October 2016, the family moved back to Orlando, where they have happily lived ever since.

Fingering Weight: 

-Inertia is a 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon 2-ply base with approximately 400 yards per 100 gram hank. Gauge is about 6-8 sts per inch on a US 0-3 size needle.

-Continuum is a 80/10/10 Superwash merino, cashmere, and nylon base, and has approximately 430 yds per 100 gram hank. Gauge is about 6-8 sts per inch on a US 0-3 size needle.

-Byte is an 80% SW US grown Merino and 20% Cashstyle Nylon fingering weight 4ply with 447 yds/100g

Sport Weight: 

-Orbit is a 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon 3-ply sport weight yarn with 328yds/100g.  It knits up beautifully on a US 2 - 4 or 2.75 - 3.5mm, getting approximately 4-6 sts per inch. 

DK Weight: 

-Kilobyte a 80% SW U.S. Merino/20% Cashstyle Nylon 4 ply with 245yds/100g

TIDAL LOCKED

Tidal locked skeins were dyed wound double.  They are divided into matched 50g hanks.  As long as you start both balls from the same color, you should get matched socks/mitts/gloves!
