About Frances:

Frances is the owner and maker behind LeFrances Handmade Crafts & Fibre Art. She is a knitter, crocheter, and indie yarn dyer with a deep love for fibre and handmade goods. Her interest in yarn and crafting began at a young age, when she first learned to crochet. That early spark grew into a lasting passion and was reignited years later when she returned to yarn arts and learned to knit from a fellow maker—later teaching them how to crochet in return. From that point on, Frances dove headfirst into creating everything she could with yarn and needles.

In 2018, a chance connection within the fibre community introduced her to the world of yarn dyeing. With encouragement and generosity from a fellow maker, Frances began experimenting with dyes and quickly fell in love with the process. This experience reinforced her belief in the power of community and makers supporting makers.

Today, LeFrances Handmade Crafts & Fibre Art is built on creativity, curiosity, and connection. Frances is inspired by music and the joy that comes with making, especially the “happy dances” she’s been doing since the early days of her small business when someone makes a purchase. Her yarn is also influenced by her culture, and you’ll often find colorways named with nods to African American singers, cuisine, and iconic references—sometimes with a little wordplay, like James Brown or Cotton Candy Sweet as Gold. While she loves exploring a range of color, her personal favorites lean toward neutrals and earth tones, and she’s always inspired by flowers and floral palettes. Frances continues to explore new techniques, share her work, and celebrate the vibrant fibre community that helped shape her journey.
